From Newman, WA to Alice Springs NT

Me and my mate Dave decided to drive across the Great Sandy Desert in my truck which
runs off used veggie oil I pick up from the back of pubs. Location: Newman, W.A to Alice Springs N.T

Dave flew into Karratha. Our mission was to get him to Alice Springs airport via Newman
and the Great Sandy Desert

It took me a few days to realise that wearing night glasses weren't the best eye protection
in the desert

Apparently some people die out in the desert.

My truck looked clean before the trip. It runs on used veggie oil which I pick up for free
out the back of pubs. I put into two 44 gallon drums on the back of it, giving me a 2000
kms range. The oil goes straight into my back tank. Google SVO if you wanna know more.

Wittenoom gorge where heaps of people died of asbestos poisoning. The town now
only has six people living in it.

Posing for a self timer photo can be awkard at times

The Red Sands Tavern in Newman where I did a gig where they named a burger after me.

Pidge, the publican at The Red Sands Tavern. It was his birthday on the night of my
gig. He celebrated by rooting a goat. Last year it was a real one.

Great place for a drink

When Dave eats meat, he likes to cut out the middle man.

The beer can was safe with my aim

Not only is there free meat out in the desert but free bore water.

We dropped in and did an impromptu kid's gig at the Cotton Creek aboriginal community on
the way.

Len Beadell graded this road for 1500kms. Tough gig.

'Mad Maxine' was chockers.

Rudall river national park. A desert oasis.

Magic.

43 degrees.

Canning stock route. One of the world's most isolated and challenging 4WD tracks. (We
drove across it not up it!)

Literally, the middle of nowhere.

Apparently real estate is pretty cheap out here.

Re-fuelling

Desert roads are littered with burnt out wrecks.

Otherwise known as free auto shop places to Dave who scored a missing bleed nipple we needed.

After 1500kms we finally found a paved road in Alice Springs.

After travelling across the Great Sandy desert and coming across two other cars, we
discovered Alice Springs roads were full of overseas tourists!

Dave and I made it to Bojangles bar in Alice Springs. A place we'd been dreaming off for the last two days

Cold beer never tasted so good
